Carbon dioxide is essential for plant health and plant development through photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the reverse of combustion, which burns trees, as it allows their growth and is endothermic, i.e. that it takes in heat altogether with carbon dioxide to foster plant growth, in exchange for what the plant also delivers O2. That it is the reverse of combustion also explains why CO2 is used in many fire extinguishers.
